30 Oct New Orleans Shop Hop
One of the best parts of a Sewtopia weekend, starts with a local shop hop of quilts stores that are near the downtown area of New Orleans. A shop hop is like a pub crawl only you’re shopping instead of drinking. We have two wonderful stores we will be visiting on Thursday, November 2nd starting at 10am. In between we’ll be visiting a great coffee shop known for their chicory coffee and beignets. So pack light and bring an extra bag, because you’re surely going to find lots of treasures to bring home!
Mes Amis Quilt Shop has been opened since April 2010. The shop is located in a small business area near Lake Pontchartrain. The owner, Denise Taylor was taught by her grandmother, “Memere.” She taught her to make tiny seams while repeating different French words. The fabric store is stocked with traditional to modern fabric from well-known designers like Kaffe Fassett, Amy Butler, and Kate Spain.
Chateau Sew & Sew is inspired by handmade and the joy it brings the maker to the recipient. The shop is located on Magazine Street in the Lower Garden District of New Orleans and features over 700 bolts of fabric, sewing patterns, notions, and gifts. They can monogram and appliqué most of the soft items they sell in the store or customers bring in. Chateau Sew and Sew not only crafts custom items, but also encourages everyone to learn to sew for themselves! Chateau Sew and Sew teach classes to ages 7-97 and of all skill levels.
