April 20th – 23rd, 2017.  This event is structured exactly like our past Chicago and Atlanta locations.    Included in your registration fee, you’ll have the opportunity to take classes taught by extraordinary and influential women from the modern quilting world at the Embassy Suites located in downtown Denver, Colorado.

Instructors

ANNA GRAHAM

Anna is a mom to two crazy and incredibly inspiring little girls. Her oldest daughter had the curliest blonde hair when she was a toddler and Anna’s nickname for her was ‘noodlehead’. It’s one of many nicknames, but it stuck, it’s fun and a little goofy – just like her and her family.

Like many, she grew up sewing with her mom. It wasn’t her favorite thing to do, but she loved being able to make something on her own. Having two daughters gave her the drive to start sewing more; and after discovering the blogging world, she never turned back.

Anna graduated in 2002 with a B.A. in Art. She thought she’d spend her working career doing graphic design, and did so for the first 10 years after college. Working in an office made her feel creatively stifled. After falling desperately in love with blogging and being able to do her own creative thing, she turned her passion into a career. She’s happy to be able to focus on what she loves: her family and creating.

LIZZY HOUSE

Lizzy House is a textile designer, printmaker, illustrator, educator, and author. For the past several years Lizzy has traveled the world in pursuit of knowledge and adventure as well as a love for sharing her work with groups of women across the globe. If Lizzy is not asleep on an airplane she can be found: writing a list, drawing a cat, planning some future garden, or dreaming about her next trip.

SEWTOPIA + BERNINA

Sewtopia and BERNINA have been partnered since 2014 and we’re grateful that they provide our events fifty (50) 350 PE sewing machines for attendees to use (first come, first serve).  Bernina Dealer will be onsite to offer great promotions on sergers to sewing machines. Stay tuned for online promotions with Sewtopia as well.

SHOP HOP

The best part of getting together for the weekend is letting us take you to the best fabric and quilt stores in the area.   A shop hop is like a pub crawl only you’re shopping instead of drinking.   At the time of registration we will ask if you want to have a spot on the bus.  There will be prizes and games on the bus.  The shops will offer special giveaways and sale prices to you as well.  Shops will be announced after registration.

SEWING LOUNGE

Sewtopia’s Sewing Lounge will be open Thursday, April 20, 2017 at 5pm to midnight.  We’ll open the lounge again in the morning for classes. We will leave it open and it will close that night at midnight.  Here’s the general format that an attendee should expect if they’re attending Sewtopia Denver:

For classes we will split the room into 3 sections. Teachers will teach Friday and Saturday. Twenty (20) attendees in the morning session, we’ll break for lunch for one (1) hour.  After lunch teachers will swap rooms/sections and teach another 20 attendees. We will open all walls for evening sewing at 5pm to midnight.  The larger section will be in Open Sew time free to work on their own projects. The next day the attendees that were in open sew will be taking the lessons from the teachers and the attendees that took classes on Friday will be in Open Sew on Saturday.  .

If you’re bringing a machine or items don’t worry about carrying them back to your room – we’ll lock up every night for you.   This time is yours to finish up class projects and other sewing projects.

General notions will be provided. Irons, cutting mats, rotary cutters, even thread.

CHALLENGES

Throughout the weekend, Sewtopia will offer up sewing challenges to inspire your creativity and there will be prizes.  After you register we’ll email more information about the challenges.  Participation is not required.

#SEWTOPIASWAP

Sewtopia will do one official secret swap that attendees can participate in.   At the time of registration, we will ask if you want to participate in the swap.  We ask that that you bring your swap item to the event and we’ll plan to swap them Friday night for recipients to open Saturday.

Rules:

  • If you’re on Instagram please use this hashtag so others can cheer you on and your creative process
  • $money limit is $15 dollars, don’t break the bank!
  • Bring your swap item wrapped to Sewtopia.
  • Make sure there’s something saying who it’s from like a label or a slip of paper
  • Smalls category would be anything smaller than a 24×24 pillow or mini, mug rug, pin cushion, something for a sewing area, or a pouch
  • Make something that you love, out of fabrics you adore.
  • The folks of Sewtopia will do the secret swap Friday night after the sewing lounge closes. The swap items will be at your sewing station for Saturday morning for you to open.
  • Don’t worry if you don’t do the swap. . . we will only hand out swap gifts to those that participated.

Exit airport by taking Pena Blvd. Follow Pena Blvd and then merge onto I-70 West. I-70 West to I-25 South, Exit 210A Colfax Ave, turn left onto Colfax Avenue. Turn left on Kalamath. Kalamath becomes Stout. Proceed underneath the convention center. Hotel will be on right, just past 14th Street.

What hotels are available for booking?/How do I get the Sewtopia discount on my hotel room?

We’ve setup a discounted room block for the group with the hosting hotel for the event. Please check back for more information on a reservation link. Book your hotel room as soon as you can, we’ve sold out on our room block since our Chicago event in 2014.

What airport should I fly into?

If you’re flying in, the airport you want is the Denver International Airport (DEN), it’s 30 minutes to the hosting hotel.

Where is Sewtopia | Denver being held?

Will food be provided? Are there restaurants in the area?

Breakfasts and lunches will be provided in your full registration fee for Friday and Saturday.  You will be on your own for dinner.  When we chose the location for Sewtopia | Denver we put it smack in the middle of downtown Colorado – you won’t have a hard time finding a good place to eat.  If you need a suggestion of places to eat, let us know and we’ll get you a list.

When will we know more details of the event?

We will contact you via email 3 months before the event with important details via email. If you haven’t heard from us, check your spam (and mark us NOT SPAM). You will also be invited to our Facebook group to discuss details. Also keep tabs on our Instagram account for updates.

Are there kit fees?

Kit fees are determined by the instructor and separate from the registration fee. Sewtopia will collect kit fees for the instructors and go directly to them after the event. If you choose to pay the instructor directly, they will collect at the beginning of each class.

Did I get a sewing machine?

One of the things we manage with each event is sewing machines.  Making sure everyone has a sewing machine is extremely important.

Bernina provides fifty (50) 350PEs for our events. Sewing machines are first come first serve. We will contact one month after registration to confirm that you have a sewing machine reserved in your name. We will also ask if you can bring your personal sewing machine instead of using one of the Bernina sewing machines, especially if you’re local or traveling to the event via car.  If you are on the waitlist and purchase a ticket, then you will likely not get a machine since it’s first come, first served.

I can’t attend, is there a refund policy?

Sewtopia Registration tickets are non-refundable, except in the event that we can find another person to purchase the ticket. Refunds are given in the original form of payment. Refunds are also contingent on amount of time until the event occurs.

11 months to 5 months from the event – refund in full minus the $50 administration fee

4 months to 3 months from the event – refund 50% of the total ticket cost

2 months to 1 month from the event – refund 0% but you have the right to sell your ticket on your own. The transfer fee of $50 still applies.

Please make sure you have received the funds before transferring your ticket. Once you’ve received your funds please email us at info@gosewtopia.com and we’ll arrange the details with you and the new attendee.
